First Time Management Essentials

It’s designed for anyone stepping into a line management role or those looking to build the essential skills to become a great manager. This open enrolment programme focuses on real-world, practical tools that will help you lead with confidence, engage your team, and drive performance. No jargon, no fluff—just the skills you need to make a difference.

Course Overview 

The design of this programme is intended to be cutting edge learning design, with inclusion lead learning. This means we will be continually pushing the boundaries of the learning experience to give you the best results, whilst catering to the diverse needs of our learners. We purposefully haven't over packed the days so that each topic is done deeply. We want everyone to walk away with truly transformational behaviours.

Day 1

Welcome 

To kick off the day, we will be connecting with our learners, understanding their needs and objectives, and setting the environment so everyone can get the best out of the session. 

Initiating Exercise

We'll begin the learning with an exercise that brings to life the key elements of management in a dynamic and experiential way - don't worry, nothing humiliating or on the spot! 

What is management?

For the rest of the morning, we will then dive in to what do we mean by management. What does it mean to us, to the generally working world, and what is stopping us being our best. 

Creating the relationship

Throughout the afternoon of day 1, we will explore how to set the line manager and line report relationship up for success. We'll be exploring starting a values based relationship, adult-to-adult mindset, contracting, and initiating career conversations. 

Day 2

Welcome back

We'll welcome everyone back for day 2 with a check in and a reconnect on workstyle to kick off the day. 

Driving performance

Over the course of day 2's morning, we will explore getting the best out of our people, exploring key tools to do this such as feedback, and situational leadership. 

Breakthrough conversations

The afternoon of day 2 is all about those conversations that elevate a relationship because they address the challenges. We will get lots of chance to practice and have live feedback from the facilitators. 

Looking forward 

As we move to close the session, we will explore how to embed the learning going forward in a meaningful way for all attendees. We'll then end with commitments of actions.
